Housing Up believes actively pursuing development opportunities to improve our current facilities and further shape the landscape of affordable housing in Washington, DC and in the surrounding metropolitan areas of Prince George’s and Montgomery Counties. The expansion into the broader DC Metropolitan area will help provide more affordable housing choices for families in the metro area and address the area-wide need for more affordable housing. The future developments listed below are our upcoming and ongoing ventures to make housing available for all.
Renovations of Partner Arms 1
After 20 years of managing Partner Arms 1, a permanent supportive housing facility in the Petworth neighborhood of Ward 4, Housing Up renovated this space as we entered another 20 year lease with the District Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD).
Creation of the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Commons
Housing Up purchased a three-story apartment complex in the District at the intersection of Benning Road and Southern Avenue SE for the purpose of creating the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Commons. The buildings are located in the Marshall Heights neighborhood of Ward 7 and are in need of significant rehabilitation. The renovation plan calls for utility upgrades, modernized kitchen and bathrooms, façade improvements as well as new laundry rooms and an upgraded community room including computer workstations. There will be 36 two-bedroom units; 24 of which will be affordable housing and 12 will be permanent supportive housing. After the renovations are completed, we will also provide wrap around supportive services for all residents. The expected re-open date will be in mid-2015.
