One of THC’s most rewarding volunteer opportunities is the Adopt-an-Apartment Program (AAP).  The homeless families entering THC’s Partner Arms 2 (transitional housing) have few or no furnishings. Churches and other community groups adopt apartments by providing gently-used furniture and household items for the incoming homeless family.  As families successfully graduate from THC’s program, they are allowed to take all furnishings with them.  We then partner with another church or organization to refurnish the apartment for the next family.

Many thanks to our most recent Adopt-An-Apartment Program supporters — Church of the Redeemer and St. Thomas DC!

In addition to collecting donated furnishings, the adopting group transports all of the furnishings to the apartment, moves everything in, and sets up the apartment so that it is ready for the new family.  Depending on the size of the home (1, 2 or 3-bedroom), we suggest that you generate a collection/offering to finance the bed mattresses, sheets, and linens.  When your group adopts an apartment, you are helping to give a family a new home – an experience that has proven to be tremendously meaningful for all parties involved.
