Intern Spotlight: Rachael Brooker Langston
Rachael Brooker Langston
Philanthropy & Communications Intern
What drew you to Housing Up’s internship program?
My interest in affordable housing and my desire to continue working on housing issues. Prior to this I worked as a paralegal on a case representing public housing tenants whose homes were in dangerous disrepair. This led to my interest in non profit affordable housing developers as an alternative option. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to pursue this interest at Housing Up.
I was also drawn specifically to Housing Up’s combination of housing development and support services. I am excited to work for an organization that takes such a holistic approach.
What are you looking forward to the most in 2022?
I’m moving into a new apartment in December. I’m looking forward to settling into a new place and making it my own. I also hope the pandemic winds down and I can go back to normal activities and travel without worrying about putting my and others’ health at risk.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
I’m actually not sure! I have a lot of interests, and I am excited to see where they lead me. I hope to continue working in and exploring affordable housing issues as this is something I could see myself working in for a long time. If I decide what to study I could see myself going to grad school at some point.
What’s something not many people know about you?
I’m really into swing dancing! And art. I used to run the ballroom dancing club in college where I would teach dance lessons and throw parties.
