Happy Black History Month!
As Black History Month concludes, we are celebrating the amazing families that make up Housing Up’s community, the vast majority of whom are Black. In fact, most of the families we serve are led by Black single mothers.
Across our social channels, we highlighted powerful people in Black history, including poet Gwendolyn Brooks and surgeon Dr. Charles Drew. We put the spotlight on local Black-owned businesses and noted how we don’t always talk about how we can make commercial real estate affordable for Black women. With the help of DC Fiscal Policy Institute’s report, we reflected on one of the many issues facing the Black community in DC and across the country: gentrification.
Housing Up is here to celebrate the Black community and pay attention to the issues facing the community year-round, and we encourage you to do the same!
