Intern Edition | Diana Ruiz, Fundraising & Development Intern
THC is excited to introduce our very first Fundraising & Development intern, Diana Ruiz! Diana comes to us from the College of William & Mary and will be supporting the development team with fundraising online efforts. Read more about her here in this interview:
I am a rising senior at the College of William & Mary, majoring in Government and French & Francophone studies. Previously, I volunteered with a number of different organizations in the Northern Virginia area, as well as the Williamsburg, VA community. My interest in community development has led me to pursue a career in nonprofit.
What brought you to THC? Describe your internship and how it fits into your overall plan.
I found THC’s Fundraising & Development internship while looking for a summer job on Idealist.org. I was really impressed by all of THC’s accomplishments and moved by the testimonials from families that benefited from the many services that THC offers to the community. The Fundraising & Development internship will help me gain experience at the nonprofit level.
What excites you about the THC internship?
I’m excited to be working with a local nonprofit, since I am from the DC metro area. I think it’ll be a great opportunity to give back to the community. Also, I’m looking forward to working with everyone at THC. Everyone here is really passionate about the work that THC does for so many families.
What are you doing after your internship ends?
Once my internship ends, I will be going back to school to finish my last year of college. I hope to be able to return to the DC area after college to work at a nonprofit.
What do you like to do for fun?
In my spare time I love to hike, practice yoga, and play volleyball. I spend most of my time watching movies or hanging out with friends and family.
What is your favorite place in DC?
I love everything about DC, but if I had to pick one spot it would probably be the National Mall. I love it because it’s so close to all my favorite museums and it’s a great place to hang out.
