On Wednesday, August 26, Mayor Bowser and the Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) announced that Housing Up, along with 29 DC-based nonprofits, will receive funding to support their increase in operational costs, constituent requests and other disruptions due to COVID-19.

The grants, which total nearly $1.5 million, will support local housing and community development organizations. According to DHCD Director Polly Donaldson, the agency recognized no one will be untouched by COVID-19, even the organizations that exist to help others during crises.

“It’s usually nonprofit and community organizations that are relied upon and able to assist people in times of need, but these are unique circumstances,” Donaldson said. “Our goal is to help eligible organizations by offering a small capital infusion.”
