There’s Still Time to Donate to the Give Greater DC Campaign!

Through May 31, Housing Up is participating in Spur Local’s Give Greater DC campaign! Give Greater DC is a giving initiative that focuses on supporting critical local nonprofits in our community in the face of potential budget cuts. All donations from the Give Greater DC campaign will fund our youth enrichment program, which provides education and development resources kids need to thrive, including our free, 6-week summer camp and backpacks full of school supplies for the kids in our programs. Your generosity makes a big impact on our families. Make your secure, tax-deductible donation here to help kids thrive all year round.
Current Housing News
On May 2nd, President Trump released a “skinny” budget request that proposes to cut critical programs at several agencies, including the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The budget proposal would slash HUD’s rental assistance programs by $26.72 billion. Over ten million Americans, the majority of whom are seniors, people with disabilities, and children, rely on HUD rental assistance. Additionally, the request aims to eliminate the Community Development Block Grant Program, which offers funding to state, local, and tribal governments that allows for greater flexibility and tailored community actions. If put into place, these cuts will be detrimental to HUD and the vulnerable communities it serves. Take action today and learn more here.
Associate Board x Youth Enrichment Programming

May has been a busy month for Housing Up’s associate board (AB). The AB members joined the kids at our Fort View affordable housing community to help clean up the garden and get it ready for planting. After some hard work in the garden, the kids relaxed with some snacks and a spirited game of kickball.
Later this month, on May 28th, the AB is hosting a fundraiser for Camp Housing Up at Midlands Beer Garden. Since the pandemic, affordable summer camp programs have grown sparse. Camp Housing Up is a free, 6-week camp offered to the children in our affordable housing communities. Funding for youth enrichment, including Camp Housing Up, solely relies on the generosity of individual donors. Join us on Wednesday, May 28th, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Midlands Beer Garden, located at 3333 Georgia Ave NW, to support Camp Housing Up!
