Happy Pride Month from Housing Up!
Throughout Pride Month, we honored LGBTQ+ individuals’ contributions to advocacy and American culture and brought attention to the unique housing barriers the community faces. On our social channels, we launched our weekly LGBTQ+ Housing Activists series, which paid tribute to the LGBTQ+ advocates who have championed fair housing and equal rights.
On our blog, we published “Building a Safe Future for all: Addressing LGBTQ+ Homelessness”. The blog post examines how factors like discrimination and inequality drive disproportionate rates of homelessness in the LGBTQ+ community, especially for youth. This topic is particularly timely, considering the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary, Scott Turner’s, recent move to halt the enforcement of the Equal Access Rule. We offer insight into what this could mean for LGBTQ+ people experiencing homelessness and how we, as service providers, can create more inclusive policies and become better allies. Read the full blog post here. To close out Pride Month, we shared LGBTQ+ Culture Recommendations, including books, movies, and podcasts that center LGBTQ+ perspectives.
Celebrating Juneteenth

Last week, Housing Up celebrated Juneteenth at our headquarters and on our social channels. Staff gathered for a Juneteenth celebration where we enjoyed lunch together and played Juneteenth bingo. It was wonderful to come together as an organization to celebrate Black culture and commemorate such a significant date in American history. On social media, we posted a carousel delving further into the importance and history of Juneteenth. Click here to learn more about Juneteenth’s legacy and how it relates to the ongoing fight for racial equality in the US.
Our Back to School Drive is Here!

Even though summer has just begun, the 2025-2026 school year will be here before we know it! Housing Up is launching its annual Back to School Drive and this year, we are focused on ensuring each of the children we serve has a backpack full of school supplies that will set them up for success. Our Back to School Drive is funded completely by generous community members like you. Thanks to your support, Housing Up was able to assemble and distribute nearly 700 backpacks last year. This year, we hope to expand and distribute 800 backpacks for our 2025 Back to School Drive. Can the families we serve count on your support? Please click here to make a monetary donation or donate supplies via our Walmart wish list! If your business or workplace would like to make a donation, please contact Shahidah Abdul-Lateef at sabdul-lateef@housingup.org.
