Introducing Our Family Stability Fund

The Diatta family outside their home
This year, your support is especially impactful. With rising costs and cuts to essential programs, many families are struggling to meet their most basic needs. That’s why we’ve launched Housing Up’s Family Stability Fund to provide families with the flexible, emergency support they need to stay safely housed. Your donation will support vital needs, from groceries and essentials for families facing food insecurity to rental and utility assistance as costs continue to rise.
Help us ensure that the more than 900 families we serve have access to the housing and services they need by making your donation at housingup.org/EOY. You can donate to Housing Up in a range of ways, including gifts of stock and donations through donor-advised funds and IRAs. Click here to see all the ways you can make your donation.
Want to show your support in person? Join Housing Up’s associate board on December 2 from 6 to 8 pm (GivingTuesday!) at The Midlands Beer Garden for an end of year fundraiser. All proceeds will go directly to the Family Stability Fund to provide emergency support that keeps families safely housed, connected, and hopeful for the future.

The Fight for Basic Needs: Housing, Healthcare, and Food
After 43 days, the longest government shutdown is finally over. SNAP benefits and federal worker pay have resumed, but this deal comes at a significant cost to low-income Americans. Affordable Care Act (ACA) tax credits will expire at the end of the year, which is expected to more than double the premiums Medicaid enrollees pay annually. Along with the expiration of ACA tax credits, President Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” proposed major funding cuts and eligibility changes to SNAP and Medicaid. Hundreds of the families we serve at Housing Up rely on these programs and some changes, like lowering the Medicaid income cap, have already made families ineligible for the program.
Another objective of the Trump administration has been to dismantle evidence-based Housing First programs. Housing Up is a Housing First organization that provides safe, no-barrier housing and comprehensive support services to more than 900 families in DC. Earlier this month, the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced it will cut key funding for permanent supportive housing programs by 70%. This decision would put nearly 500 Housing Up clients at risk of losing their stable housing. Check out our blog post “A Proven Path Forward: Protecting Housing First” and our Housing First video to learn more and act now by contacting your representatives to urge Congress to prevent these harmful cuts.
Our 2025 Holiday Drive is Here!
Webster Gardens Holiday Party
The giving season has arrived, and Housing Up’s 2025 Holiday Drive is officially underway! Thanks to our generous donors and community partners, children in our permanent supportive housing programs will open gifts they may not otherwise receive. But what matters most is the sense of community and joy these gifts provide to the families we serve.
Housing Up’s Resident Services Coordinator, Tony Smith, shared, “At Housing Up, we believe our role goes beyond providing housing; we are here to help families heal. The Holiday Drive is a vital part of that restorative process. It’s not just about gifts; it’s about dignity, connection, and hope.” Help brighten the lives of the children we serve and give the gift of hope this year by donating at housingup.org/holidaydrive or by purchasing a gift directly from our Amazon wishlist here.
