Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
I grew up in Takoma Park, Maryland, and graduated from Montgomery Blair High School in 2018. I attended the University of Vermont and received a BS in Biological Anthropology and a BA in Studio Art in 2022. Throughout my studies, I developed a passion for understanding the social, political, economic, and historical contexts that contribute to health in the United States.

After graduating, I knew I wanted to pursue this interest, so I joined AmeriCorps as a community health worker for the Epilepsy Foundation of New England. While my primary role as a community health worker involved acting as a liaison between my clients and the healthcare system, I assumed many other responsibilities. Many of my clients struggled with employment, housing, and social isolation due to their disability. I learned how all of these aspects contribute to the overall health and well-being of society. This experience greatly informed my career path and sparked my love for nonprofit work.

Where were you before Housing Up?
I have worked in various industries, including service, academia, nonprofit, and early childhood education. Before Housing Up, I worked in Vermont as a behavioral interventionist. My primary role in this position was to help preschoolers with autism communicate and develop healthy coping mechanisms. During my time here, I developed a deep appreciation for the many different ways people can connect.

What kind of impact are you hoping to have on the organization?
I hope to convey and amplify Housing Up’s mission and values, which assert that housing is a fundamental human right. Additionally, I want to combat the harmful stigma against unhoused individuals and communities.

What’s something not everyone knows about you?
I love doing anything that requires me to be creative. Drawing people, especially those close to me, is one of my favorite ways to pass the time and express myself. Cooking for my family and friends is another one of my favorite things to do. I find it relaxing and satisfying to learn new recipes and perfect old ones while I listen to podcasts.
