On December 1, 2020, Housing Up will celebrate GivingTuesday, a day where millions of givers around the world show up to build collective generosity. Earlier this year, we participated in GivingTuesdayNow, a similar effort that was built out of the increased need for critical services in our communities due to COVID-19.

This GivingTuesday, we’ll be working with our amazing supporters to provide flexibility and spread joy to Housing Up families who have been dealt difficult circumstances this year. We know firsthand the uncertainty and disruption our families, like your family, are facing during this pandemic. We also know that our community needs our help now more than ever, and we have been inspired by your kindness during this time.

At the end of the summer, nearly half of the families we serve reported that they had their work hours reduced or needed assistance accessing essential items such as groceries and cleaning supplies. With many of our families just getting back on their feet, this pandemic has the potential to be incredibly devastating. COVID-19 has reinforced the need for healthy housing for all DC residents. 

As always, your generosity makes a big impact on our families. One of the many Housing Up families you’ve helped is Asia Kyle and her daughter, Ayesha. Ms. Kyle was brought to Washington, DC by a sex trafficker, which ultimately led her to trauma and housing instability. Since moving into Webster Gardens with her daughter five years ago, she has delved into the important work of survivor justice, pursued professional goals and ensured that her daughter has a solid foundation to grow.

This is just one of our amazing families’ stories, but their success begins with you.
