On Tuesday, May 5, 2020, Housing Up will celebrate #GivingTuesdayNow, a day dedicated to global giving. Though #GivingTuesday is usually celebrated annually on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, this day of charitable giving has moved earlier in the year in light of the coronavirus emergency and the increased need for critical services in our communities.

#GivingTuesdayNow harnesses the power of social media and the spirit of giving in a time of immense need. At Housing Up, we know firsthand the uncertainty and disruption our families, like your family, are facing during this pandemic. We also know that our community needs our help now more than ever, and we have been inspired by your kindness since coronavirus hit our community.

This #GivingTuesdayNow, we’re raising funds to support our families who have been hurt by coronavirus. As of last week, more than 25 percent of our low-income families have lost their jobs or had their work hours reduced. With many of our families just getting back on their feet, this pandemic has the potential to be devastating to the vulnerable communities we serve. Coronavirus has reinforced that housing and income are determinants of health.

As always, your generosity makes a big impact on our families. One of the many Housing Up families you’ve helped is Waynika Simms and her daughter, Ariel. When Waynika became a single mother after her husband was brutally murdered, she found that she could no longer afford her home. With your support of Waynika and Housing Up’s rapid re-housing program, she was able to regain stable housing and knew that someone was by her side, never giving up on her.
