Our 2026 Back to School Drive is Here!
Summer is officially here, and Housing Up is already gearing up for the 2026-2027 school year. We are excited to launch our annual Back to School Drive! This initiative provides the children we serve with backpacks filled with essential school supplies and helps create a foundation for a successful school year.
In 2025, the price of school supplies increased by nearly 9.5 percent, placing an additional burden on parents, caregivers, and teachers. This year, across DC, families are increasingly struggling to afford basic necessities like food, healthcare, and housing making community support even more essential. Our Back to School Drive is made possible entirely through the generosity of our community members. These donations ensure that every kid in our programs has the resources to start the school year off on the right note.
This year, we are excited to introduce our new Community Sponsorship opportunity. By sponsoring a Housing Up community, such as Fort View Apartments, The Faircliff, or Weinberg Commons, you can see your impact firsthand. Community Sponsorships offer a meaningful way for companies, faith-based organizations, and other community groups to invest in their communities and help children in DC start the school year prepared, confident, and ready to learn.
With your support, every school-age child who needs a backpack will receive one filled with school supplies like calculators, notebooks, and other classroom essentials. Each year, our Back to School Drive supports hundreds of households across DC. Your involvement in this year’s Drive will make a valuable difference in the lives of the 600 low-income and formerly homeless families we serve.
