The Future of Evictions in DC
Since March 2020, the official declaration of a public health emergency in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, DC has issued & extended several emergency eviction moratoriums. In July, DC Council announced a phased approach to restarting eviction filings with a small subset of landlords able to submit eviction filings on August 24, a broader percentage of eviction filings resuming on October 12 and eviction filings resuming in full on January 1, 2022.
With evictions slowly resuming and emergency rental assistance dwindling, advocates, nonprofits and legal experts are considering additional options to help residents facing evictions, many of whom are still struggling to rebound from the economic & health tolls of COVID-19. Read more.

Honoring Domestic Violence Awareness Month
This October, we honored Domestic Violence Awareness Month with DC SAFE and National Network to End Domestic Violence (NNEDV). Since the pandemic began & stay-at-home orders were put in place, Housing Up has seen a rise in the frequency and severity of domestic violence within the families we serve.
We talked to Debbie Fox, Senior Policy & Practice Specialist at NNEDV about what inspired her to join the movement, the intersection between DV and housing, and how our community can help make our neighborhoods safer for everyone. Read more here.
DC SAFE also joined us on Purple Thursday, 10/21 and took over our Instagram. They shared what DC SAFE has been up to and how our community can help make DC a safer place for all. Catch up @housingup on Instagram.

You made Living in the City an Evening to Remember!
All of us at Housing Up would like to express our deepest gratitude for attending Living in the City 2021. Because of your generosity, we raised over $110,000 to help the more than 900 families we serve maintain their safe and affordable housing.
If you missed Living in the City or want to relive the joy, you can watch the program here. Skip ahead to the 30 minute mark to begin the broadcast, or enjoy a half hour of jazzy music & a slideshow of our families for the full experience.
We look forward to the day when we can safely gather again!
