Weinberg Commons Ground Breaking set for October 10th!
This Friday, October 10th, THC will be breaking ground on our newest property, the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Commons. Mayor Gray along with other city officials, lenders and community partners will celebrate the creation of the first multi-family passive house project of its kind in DC!
The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Commons (formerly known as Delta Commons at Benning is Road) is the new name for THC’s affordable and permanent supportive housing development at Benning Road and Southern Avenue
Southeast. This name change is being made to honor and recognize The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation. This foundation supports THC’s mission to end homelessness and has made a very generous grant to help finance the redevelopment of this property.
Weinberg Commons will be home to 36 additional families. 12 of the apartments will be reserved for families in need of Permanent Supportive Housing, and 24 apartments will be affordable housing units for families making between 30-60% of the area median income. Beyond providing safe affordable housing for families in the midst of a family homelessness crisis, this project will be DC’s first multi-family passive house development. This method of redevelopment creates a highly energy efficient building that will not only decrease energy consumption, but also decrease the cost of utility bills for residents.
