On Tuesday, November 30, Housing Up will celebrate Giving Tuesday, a day dedicated to global giving. Giving Tuesday harnesses the power of social media and the spirit of giving in a time of immense need. At Housing Up, we know firsthand the uncertainty and disruption the families we serve, like so many of you, are facing as the COVID-19 pandemic and economic uncertainty continues. We also know that our community needs our help now more than ever, and we have been inspired by your kindness during 2021.
This Giving Tuesday, we’re raising funds to support our families who are traveling the difficult road of maintaining their safe and affordable housing. More than half of the low-income families we serve lost their jobs or had their work hours reduced during the height of the pandemic. Many of them were just getting back on their feet when the pandemic hit, and you can help us ensure COVID-19 doesn’t devastate them further.
As always, your generosity makes a big impact on our families. One of the many Housing Up families you’ve helped is the Diatta family. When the Diattas immigrated from Senegal to the United States, they needed a place to land. After a family of 5 shared a one bedroom apartment for months, they moved into our Fort View Apartments. While their eldest daughter graduated college and entered graduate school, the family was able to gather savings and purchase their own home. Because of your support of Housing Up, the Diattas knew someone was by their side, never giving up on them.
This is just one of our amazing families’ stories, but their success really begins with you.
