Where were you before Housing Up?

Before joining Housing Up, I worked as a community health worker providing care coordination for IV drug users to connect them with Medication-Assisted Treatment services. In this role, I also completed HIV and Hep C testing and prevention education services and worked with some of the most vulnerable citizens in our area. I have also worked as a case manager with DC DHS rapid re-housing program for families and with DC Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services’ court-involved youth. 

What kind of impact are you hoping to have on the organization?

I decided to join Housing Up to further the belief “that people who have safe, affordable housing and genuine opportunities are empowered to transform their lives”. As a former DC foster care youth, this statement is very important to me. After being emancipated from DC foster care system, I was left to fend for myself and experienced homelessness. I struggled for years to find suitable housing and to become self-sufficient. It was programs such as Housing Up that allowed me to transform my life. My passion in helping others to realize their full potential comes from my experiences. At Housing Up, I look forward to sharing that passion with the persons that we work with. I believe that life is a marathon full of sprints. You may not win one sprint, but we must keep moving as it’s a marathon. 

What’s something not everyone knows about you?

A few fun facts about me are that I went back to college after 10 years and will be graduating at the same time as my daughter who will be attending Georgetown Law School in the Fall. I am also a twin.
