On March 1, POLITICO published an article about the Trump Administration’s increasingly strident attacks on federally funded housing programs by linking homelessness to criminality and partisan politics. The piece notes that the Administration is undermining the Housing First model, which has been widely proven to be cost efficient for communities and successful for families and individuals.

As a homeless supportive services provider and affordable housing developer in the District of Columbia since 1990, Housing Up knows that the Housing First model is the best way to end homelessness, and we must have a sufficient supply of affordable, safe and accessible housing. Only after stable housing is secured can families and individuals be fully empowered to transform their lives.

We call on our national, state and local leaders to continue to approach homelessness in a nonpartisan manner, and to look to the experts, not politicians, for the best practices to address the challenge of homelessness.
