There’s Still Time to Donate to Our Spring Campaign!

A few weeks ago, we launched our Spring Fundraising Campaign! We highlighted Asia and her daughter Ayesha. Asia grew up poor in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and experienced housing insecurity after moving to DC. She and her daughter Ayesha recently moved from a one-bedroom to a two-bedroom apartment at one of Housing Up’s affordable housing communities, Webster Gardens. There, “[Ayesha] can have friends and do activities right in the facility,” mom Asia said.
Asia expressed how much affordable housing has meant for her and daughter. She said it has given her the chance “to prove to [herself], and to anybody else, it is possible to break the generational curse of poverty.” Asia and Ayesha are continuing to transform their lives and have the chance to thrive with the support of stable housing & resident services programming.
Help support families like Asia and Ayesha’s by donating to our Spring Campaign!

Infant and Toddler Homelessness in the District
Schoolhouse Connection released the first state-by-state collection of data on infant and toddler homelessness. In the District, they found that from 2021 to 2022, 7.35% of infants and toddlers were experiencing homelessness. Of that 7.35%, only 7.4% are enrolled in an early childhood education program. These programs intervene early in childhood and help provide resources and opportunities to families and their children. They are a tool that can help mitigate the harm caused by homelessness, and yet most families experiencing housing insecurity face barriers to access them.
