National Volunteer Month

Kids at Webster Gardens preparing their community garden
As National Volunteer Month comes to a close, we want to thank our amazing volunteers, known as our Front Porch Crew, for the impact they make every day. Throughout April, we spotlighted volunteering events like the Partner Arms II Spring Cleaning event and the Webster Gardens Earth Day celebration, and shared stories from volunteers about why they serve at Housing Up. Hear from Olivia and Vicky on our Instagram to learn more about what inspired them to join our mission.
A central focus of National Volunteer Month was also growing our volunteer community. We are excited to expand our volunteer opportunities to reflect the needs and interests of the nearly 600 families we serve. Click here or email Communications & Engagement Assistant, Julia Bliss, at jbliss@housingup.org to join our Front Porch Crew and check out our upcoming opportunities below:
- 5/8: Mother’s Day spa celebration at PAII
- 5/9: Fort View Garden clean-up
- Late June-Early August: Camp Housing Up support
How Housing Shapes Health

GWU’s Student Public Health Association delivers hygiene kits to the seniors at Entwine
In honor of National Public Health Week, which took place April 6 to April 12, George Washington University’s Public Health Student Association assembled hygiene kits for the seniors in our Entwine community. Partnerships with public health programs are essential, now more than ever in the midst of tumultuous federal and local healthcare policy, to address the gaps and barriers that many low-income families face. At Housing Up, we recognize that housing is a key driver of health, and that we cannot address one without the other. Read our most recent blog post, “Home is Where Health Begins,” here and check out our Instagram post to learn more about how safe, stable, and affordable housing creates the foundation for well-being and health.
