Living in the City Keynote Speaker, Rashema Melson
We’re less than a month away from Housing Up’s most important fundraiser of the year, Living in the City. This year, we’re honored to have Rashema Melson, CEO & Founder of Pain Into PURPOSE, and Founder & President of the Melson Foundation, as our keynote speaker. Rashema is a DC native with lived experience of homelessness, who works to dismantle inequitable systems and support people experiencing homelessness. Join us on 9/23 at 6 PM to hear how Rashema is helping communities, nonprofits, and agencies fight oppression throughout the nation. We can’t wait to see you there!

We asked and you showed up! Housing Up’s 2026 Back to School Drive was a great success, and we couldn’t have done it without you. Thanks to our incredible community, we were able to assemble and distribute almost 350 backpacks to the children we serve. With your support, hundreds of the children across DC have the resources to start the school year prepared, confident, and ready to learn. Read more about this year’s Drive here.

Youth Tutoring is Back in Session

With the school year officially underway, we are preparing for our youth tutoring program. Volunteer as a tutor this fall and empower children and young adults in their education, giving them a higher chance of success in high school and college. Time slots are available Monday through Thursday, from 5 to 7 PM.
Help create positive environments that allow children to learn and grow, and to envision a future that includes higher education and economic independence.
