Living in the City is Almost Here!
Living in the City is almost a month away! We can’t wait to (virtually) see all our supporters – near and far – on October 5 to celebrate our families, our community & our 30 years of service.
COVID-19 has handed difficult challenges to Housing Up families, and we know many of our supporters are hurting as well. As we look to our community to support Living in the City this year, and thus our resilient families, we don’t take that request lightly. Any role you play in supporting Living in the City 2020 will help families we serve access the resources they need as we continue to grapple with the pandemic.
Visit our website for information about sponsorship opportunities and to register. Look out for more details in the coming weeks!

Housing Up Awarded DHCD Funding
We’re thrilled to share Housing Up is a recipient of the Department of Housing and Community Development’s (DHCD) COVID-19 Nonprofit Support Grant. Housing Up will receive $40,000 to support the increase in operational costs and other disruptions due to the pandemic.
DHCD distributed 30 grants, which total nearly $1.5 million, to local housing and community development organizations. We’re so grateful for DHCD and Mayor Bowser’s dedication to building a stronger, more equitable DC for all residents.

Staff Spotlight
For this month’s #StaffSpotlight, we’re highlighting our new Rapid Re-Housing case manager, Natika Thorne!
When asked why she decided to join the Housing Up team, she said it’s because she believes with the right resources and support, no one would be homeless.
Welcome to Housing Up, Natika! Read more here.

Join the March on Washington & Black National Convention
On Friday, August 28, consider joining two virtual events that will mark the end of Black August, a month commemorating the rich history of the Black resistance.
The Movement for Black Lives’ Electoral Justice Project will host the 2020 Black National Convention (BNC) live broadcast. The BNC will channel the energy from the streets into a virtual experience for thousands of Black people & allies to build Black political power and an unapologetic Black national agenda.
The NAACP and National Action Network is hosting the 2020 Virtual March On Washington starting at 11 AM and will be convened by Rev. Al Sharpton and Martin Luther King III.
Learn more about how you can take action for Black August at Movement for Black Lives’ website.
